NDC men's basketball finishes road trip on Wednesday, plays home opener Saturday

This week: Notre Dame College men's basketball will play another game away from home as they travel to Rochester, N.Y. to play Roberts Wesleyan College on November 15 at 7 p.m. Concord University will then travel to South Euclid to play NDC in the Murphy Gymnasium on November 18 at 4 p.m. The game is the home opener and the conference lid-lifter for Notre Dame as well as being Goodyear Day.

Records: The Falcons are 1-1 this season after playing two non-conference neutral games last week. In RWC's first week of action, the Redhawks went 2-0 and did not play a game in the East Coast Conference. Concord also put together a 2-0 start to their season, and did not played a Mountain East Conference contest.

Coaches Corner: Tim Koenig enters his fifth season at the helm of the Falcons and holds a 64-57 overall record. He is 41-47 in the MEC. Now in his 16th season at the helm of the Redhawks, Rob McCoy currently has 173 victories. Todd May was hired by CU in the summer of 2016 and has a 13-17 record in his first 30 games. The Mountain Lions went 7-15 in the MEC last season.

Rankings: None of these teams were selected in the NABC Division II coaches' preseason rankings.

Series History: The Falcons have a long history against Roberts Wesleyan and have gone 11-11 since 2001-02. However, they have not played since the 2011-12 season when the Falcons won 65-62. NDC has gone 4-5 in nine games against Concord since the series started in 2013-14. Notre Dame and Concord each had a victory in the season series, last season.

Noting the Falcons: In their first game of the season, Notre Dame lost to Millersville 107-99 in double-overtime on November 10. Both games last weekend were held in Fairmont, W.Va. for the Conference Challenge. After trailing at halftime by a score of 40-37, the Falcons outscored the Marauders 44-41 in the second half. In the second overtime period, MU put 17 points on the board to the Falcons nine points, and grabbed the win. Kyauta Taylor had 37 points and played in 47 minutes. He scored 17 in the second half. Will Vorhees came off the bench and scored 15 points and hauled in six rebounds in 30 minutes and Angelo Cugini scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in his debut with the Falcons. NDC shot 63-percent from the field in the first half and 46-percent for the game. NDC earned their first win of the season over St. Augustine's University by a score of 99-95 in overtime. Notre Dame trailed at halftime, but outscored SAU in the second half, leading to their win in overtime. Drew Scarberry went 7-for-12 from three point range and had 28 points while Taylor had 25 points and eight assists. NDC shot 49-percent from the field and 88-percent from the free throw line. The Falcons were picked to finish fifth in the Mountain East Conference preseason poll and did receive one first place vote.

Noting the Redhawks: Robert Wesleyan played two games in the ECC-CACC Challenge hosted by Daemen College in Amherst, N.Y. Against Nyack College on November 10, the Redhawks won 67-60. Nine players saw double-digit minutes on the floor and nine players scored at least two points. Jean Toussaint led the team with 19 points and was tied with Peyton McLaurin for the team lead at seven rebounds. The Redhawks shot 40-percent and only twice gave up the lead to Nyack. In a 75-56 win against Felician University, on November 11, RWC shot 44-percent from the field and 80-percent from the free throw stripe. The Redhawks outscored Felician, 35-13 in the final ten-and-a-half minutes of the game after falling behind 43-40. Michael Bush scored 16 points and Justin Vaughan scored 17 points, both on 6-for-13 shooting. Toussaint had 10 rebounds in the game.

Noting the Mountain Lions:  In Winston-Salem, N.C. for the MEC-CIAA Challenge, Concord beat Fayetteville State by a score of 82-75. CU received 40 points and 10 assists from Tommy Bolte who was named MEC Player of the Week. Bolte went 17-for-26 from the field and did not make a three pointer. Bolte had 28 points and eight assists in the second half. BJ Hamlet scored 13 points and shot 3-for-6 from three point range. In an 89-77 win over Winston-Salem State, Bolte scored 43 points and shot 15-for-23. He had 21 points after the first half and scored 22 in the second. Hamlet scored 15 points and connected on three additional three pointers. As a team, the Mountain Lions shot 60-percent. Concord was picked to finish 10th in the MEC Preseason Poll.
