SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame Falcons stuck with the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats throughout the game and used a late surge to put the contest away, securing a 79-65 victory, on Thursday night.

The Falcons (10-2, 4-2 MEC) continue their winning ways and have now won four consecutive games at home and six in a row, overall. The Bobcats (5-7, 2-4 MEC) have now dropped three in a row and have lost four of their last five games.

In the first half, the two teams went back and forth during the opening minutes with neither team taking more than a four-point lead until the 13-minute mark.

Will Vorhees completed a three-point play for the Falcons to cut the West Virginia Wesleyan lead to three, 14-11, with 14:26 remaining in the first half. The Bobcats' Fred Brondsted then hit a three to put the Bobcats back up by six points.

With 9:02 to go in the first half, Kobe Johnson hit a jumper to cut the game to three again, 23-20, before West Virginia Wesleyan went on another run. This time, it was it was a 5-2 run to go back up, 28-22.

Kyauta Taylor knocked down a three with 5:09 remaining in the first, to tie the game at 29. This was the first tie in the contest since the game was all knotted up at three.

West Virginia Wesleyan went up 35-33 before the end of the half on a Luka Petrovic layup at the 1:29 mark.

Notre Dame shot 14-for-25 (56-percent) from the field in the first half.

In the second half, the two teams continued to fight hard, tying the game three times within the first five minutes. NDC took their first lead of the second half with two free throw baskets by Will Vorhees with 14:10 remaining.

Later in the half, Mo Berchie hit a three for West Virginia Wesleyan to tie the game at 56. That was the closest they would get for the rest of the game. Notre Dame caught fire and scored the next 17 points over the next five minutes of play and led the Bobcats, 73-56, with 4:04 remaining.

The Falcons largest lead of the game came at the 2:38 mark when Taylor hit a layup to put the Falcons up by 20, 79-59.

The Falcons shot even better in the second half going 18-for-31 (58-percent) from the field. They shot 32-for-56 (57-percent) throughout the entire contest. Taylor led the team with 34 points, while Vorhees recorded a double-double (30 points and 10 rebounds). Ja'Sean Lewis had eight points and grabbed eight boards. Notre Dame out-rebounded the Bobcats, 39-27.

For the Bobcats, Berchie recorded 16 points, Kevin Kangni had 14 points and Brondsted knocked down 13 points. West Virginia Wesleyan was held to 38-percent shooting from the field.

The Falcons will travel to Athens, West Virginia on Jan. 8 to take on Concord University. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
