SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Glenville State Pioneers drained 14 3-pointers on Tuesday night to come away with a 111-81 victory over the Notre Dame Falcons.
For the Falcons (2-8, 1-4 MEC) the loss was their third in a row at home, while the victory for the Pioneers (10-1, 4-1 MEC) was their seventh in a row.
In the loss,
Kelsey Miller turned in her sixth double-double of the season, as she led the Falcons with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Despite the lopsided final, Notre Dame was able to hang with the red hot Pioneers for the first three quarters of the contest. They endured a few modest runs from Glenville State over the first two quarters, and trailed by just 11 (52-41) at the half.
It was how the Falcons came out of halftime which was most impressive, as they went on a 9-0 run over the first two minutes to trim the deficit to just two (52-50) after a layup from Miller on an assist from
Seina Adachi.
The Pioneers responded with a 12-3 run over the next four minutes to bring their lead back into double digits (64-53) but the Falcons came storming back. Notre Dame scored seven straight points, getting buckets from Miller, Adachi and
Kim Cook during that run to bring the deficit back down to three (66-63) at the 2:10-mark in the third quarter, but that was as close as they could get.
The fourth quarter saw the Pioneers outscore the Falcons, 38-16, as they pulled away for the win.
Adachi added 16 points and four assists for the Falcons, while Cook added seven points, seven rebounds and added three assists as well. On a night where the Falcons had 27 assists, it was
Marisa Finazzo who led the way with five.
The Falcons return to action on Thursday, Jan. 5, when they play host to West Virginia Wesleyan College at Murphy Gymnasium in another MEC tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
