Streak Stops at Three

NDC winning streak snapped in loss to Glenville State

Box Score
GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame Falcons saw a three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon, in an 83-69 loss on the road to Glenville State.

For Notre Dame (7-12, 6-8 MEC) the loss snapped a season best, three-game winning streak, marking their first loss since Jan. 16, while the win for the Pioneers (17-3, 11-3 MEC) was their fourth in a row, and their eighth straight at home.

The contest did not begin well for the Falcons, as they shot just 16.6-percent (1-for-6) from the floor over the first four minutes of the contest. Glenville State took advantage, as they jumped out to a 14-5 lead halfway through the first quarter, and they led by as many as 12 (24-12).

Notre Dame battled back in the second quarter, as they went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a pair of buckets from Kim Cook, and they narrowed the deficit down to five (24-19) just over a minute into the second quarter. Nearly three minutes later, the Falcons made the deficit disappear completely, after Seina Adachi buried a jumper to tie the game at 26-26 with 5:13 left in the half.

While Notre Dame never lead at any point in the first half, they never let the Pioneers pull away. However, after Cook completed an old fashioned 3-point play with 3:03 left in the half to tie the game at 31-31, the Falcons missed their final three shots of the half and committed a pair of turnovers, while the Pioneers took a 35-31 lead into halftime.

The Falcons were quickly able to draw within one (35-34) after another 3-pointer from Cook on their second possession of the third quarter, but the Pioneers caught fire, and answered with an 11-2 run over the next two minutes to take a 10-point (46-36) lead. Glenville State led by as many as 13 (55-42) in the third quarter, before the Falcons quickly narrowed the deficit back down to six points (57-51) after Adachi hit a layup with 33 seconds left in the quarter. Glenville State responded with five points over the last 33 seconds of the quarter, taking an 11-point (62-51) lead into the fourth.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, it didn't get much better in the final quarter of play. While they were able to trim the deficit down to nine (67-58) at one point, the Pioneers led by double digits for most of the fourth quarter and cruised to the finish line.

Four Falcons scored in double figures, and Cook led the way with 17 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Adachi added a dozen points for the Falcons as well as four steals, while Kelsey Miller added 12 points as well with four assists and nine rebounds. Jessie Stout scored 12 points as well.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 1, when they head back home to play host to West Virginia State at Murphy Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
