WHEELING, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame College softball team dropped a road doubleheader to the host Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals in Mountain East Conference action on Sunday afternoon at JB Chambers Complex. The Falcons lost both games by a narrow deficit, losing 2-0 in game one and 2-1 in game two.

Nicole Spuhler, Mackenzie Wallace and Kayla Sidorski led the Falcons offense in game one, each recording two hits for NDC. In the chalked circle, Ashley Pokraka allowed just one earned run in six innings while striking out seven. 

However, it wasn't enough as the host Cardinals were able to keep NDC off the scoreboard as the Falcons lost game one, 2-0.

After being held scoreless in game one, the Falcons immediately responded with early offense in game two.

Spuhler was hit by pitch with one out in the top of the first, and Shelby Stephens doubled to center field to put two runners in scoring position for NDC. Mackenzie Wallace hit a clutch two-out single to the left side, scoring Spuhler as the Falcons took the early 1-0 lead.

After helping the Falcons on offense, Wallace took the circle and kept the Cardinals scoreless through the first two innings. However, Wheeling Jesuit scored one run in the third and one more in the fourth, but that was all as Wallace limited the damage.

Trailing 2-1 going into the fifth inning of game two, the Falcons attempted to claw back on offense to tie the game. The Cardinals, however, continued to stifle the Falcons' offense and the score remained at 2-1 as NDC fell short in game two.

With the losses, the Falcons fall to 15-34 on the season, including a 9-23 mark in MEC play.

The Falcons will now prepare for the upcoming Mountain East Conference Tournament, which begins this Friday, April 29.
