Box Score 2 SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College softball team fell short in a pair of Mountain East Conference games on Saturday, losing a doubleheader to the visiting Shepherd Rams at Normandy Field. The Falcons fell short in game one, 7-0, before losing game two 5-0.
GAME ONE
Shepherd 7, Notre Dame 0Playing in chilly conditions at Normandy Field, the Falcons dropped game one of Saturday's Mountain East Conference doubleheader. The visiting Rams scored two runs in the third inning to take an early 2-0 lead over the Falcons, who were unable to respond on offense.
Mackenzie Wallace went 2-for-4 at the plate at the leadoff spot, improving her
team-leading .411 batting average. Meanwhile,
Anna Myers went 2-for-2 in game one to improve her season batting average to .316, good for the third-best mark on the team.
Alexis Burke pitched solid relief innings for the Falcons, scattering three hits and two runs across three innings of action.Â
The Rams scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to push their lead to 7-0 over NDC, and the Falcons offense was unable to respond with their own rally, falling short by a final 7-0 score.
GAME TWO
Shepherd 5, Notre Dame 0Game two of Saturday's doubleheader proved to be a pitchers duel early on between SU's Kelly Munda and NDC's
Ashley Pokraka. Both sides pitched scoreless innings through the first five frames, leading to a scoreless tie going into the sixth.
The visiting Rams used an RBI double to key a two-run sixth inning, taking a 2-0 lead over the Falcons. Shepherd added three more insurance runs in the seventh as the Falcons fell behind 5-0.
NDC was unable to create an offensive spark, falling short in game two by a final score of 5-0.
Mackenzie Wallace went 3-for-4 in game two, equating to a 5-for-8 performance on the day, while
Erin Calhoun went 2-for-3 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
With the losses, the Falcons fall to 9-22 on the season, including a 3-11 mark in MEC play.
NDC will return to action on Sunday, April 3 at home against the visiting Fairmont State Fighting Falcons in another MEC doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 1 pm and 3 pm at Normandy Field.
