Sweet Spring Finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Notre Dame Falcons brought their Spring Trip to an end on Saturday afternoon, and ended that trip in winning fashion, defeating St. Cloud State 7-5, before taking care of Northern State in walk off fashion, 4-3.

The wins for the Falcons (5-8) snapped a three-game losing streak. The wins came against a pair of impressive programs, in St. Cloud State (9-10) and Northern State(4-4).

Game One
Notre Dame tallied 13 hits, and took the lead early on. Tayler Graver smashed a run scoring single to center field in the top of the second inning to score Mackenzie Wallace, giving the Falcons a 1-0 advantage. They were able to add to that in the top of the third, as Nicole Spuhler reached on a sacrifice bunt which allowed Anissa Kotoch to score.

St. Cloud State answered with a pair of runs to tie the game in the bottom of the third, but the Falcons answered quickly with three runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead. Kayla Sidorski put the Falcons back in the lead on a RBI double to left which brought Wallace home, and she scored later in the inning on Maria Vanadia's RBI single to right, before Sphuler capped the rally with a RBI single to left.

The Falcons scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull away. Erin Calhoun reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Amy Hoover to score, and Spuhler scored later in the inning on a passed ball.

St. Cloud State put a threat together in the bottom of the seventh inning, where they scored a pair of runs, but Ashley Pokraka (3-6) was able to get out of the jam. Pokraka went the distance to score her first of two victories on the day, allowing four runs, five of them earned on 10 hits over seven innings.

Four Falcons hit safely multiple times. Wallace led the way, going 3-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. Hoover, Stephens and Vanadia all chipped in with two hits each.

Game Two
The Falcons won their spring finale in dramatic fashion, winning in their final at bat for the second time in the last three days.

Northern State had the upper hand early on, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. The Falcons responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. They were able to take advantage of a pair of defensive mishaps, as Wallace scored the first run on a passed ball, and Anna Myers scored the next run on a wild pitch.

In the seventh, Northern State scored the go-ahead run with one out on a wild pitch to take a 3-2 lead, before the Falcons used two-out magic to come away with the victory in the home half of the inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Kotoch on second and Nicole Luciano on third, Shelby Stephens delivered a pinch hit RBI single to second base to score Lucciano, and Kotoch came all the way around to score from second base on the play to win it.

Wallace delivered her second multi-hit game of the day, going 2-for-3, while Calhoun hit safely twice as well with a 2-for-3 performance. Wallace had a huge spring trip, as she hit .414 over the 13 game stretch, with 12 hits. Stephens's game winning pinch hit single was her 14th of the trip, a team high.

Pokraka (4-6) scored her second victory of the day, going the distance, and allowed just three runs, on nine hits and fanned four along the way.

The Falcons will return to action on Wednesday, March 16, when they host West Liberty in their home opener at Normandy Field. The first pitch in the twin bill is schedule for 3 p.m.
