Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame College softball team dropped a Sunday doubleheader on the road agains the Mountain East Conference rival Shepherd Rams, losing 2-1 in game one and 5-2 in game two.
GAME ONE
Shepherd 2, Notre Dame 1Game one of Sunday's doubleheader featured a pitchers duel between Shepherd's Tara Hanson and Notre Dame's
Ashley Pokraka.
Pokraka, a senior righthander, struck out six Rams' hitters in 6.2 innings while allowing just two earned runs for the Falcons. The opposing Rams scored one run early in the first inning, but both sides went silent on offense until the seventh and final inning of action.
Trailing 1-0 with three outs to go, NDC's
Mackenzie Wallace led off the seventh inning with a slap single down the left field line.
Shelby Stephens then ripped a one-out double to center field, scoring Wallace from first and tying the score at 1-1.
Halli Swiger replaced Stephens as a pinch runner, and advanced to third base after a groundout to shortstop. However, the Falcons couldn't score Swiger from third, leading to a 1-1 tie going into the bottom of the seventh.
In the final half-inning of the game, the Rams used a pair of singles to score the game-winning run as the Falcons fell short 2-1 in game one.
GAME TWO
Shepherd 5, Notre Dame 2After a narrow 2-1 loss in game one, the Falcons came out with added motivation on their side in game two, scoring two runs early in the second inning.
Maria Vanadia ripped a one-out single through the left side in the top of the second, sparking the Falcons' offense.
Anna Myers followed with a single of her own, putting two runners on base for NDC.

Anissa Kotoch walked to load the bases,
Mackenzie Wallace smacked a two-run single to right field, scoring Vanadia and Myers as the Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Shepherd responded with three runs in the bottom of the third inning, taking a 3-2 lead over the Falcons. The Rams added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the score held steady at 5-2 resulting in another narrow loss for the Falcons.
With the losses, the Falcons fall to 7-10 on the season, including a 2-2 mark in MEC play.
The Falconw will return to action on Tuesday, March 22 at home against Ashland University in a non-conference doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 3 pm and 5 pm.
