Falcons conclude regular season with 109-91 win over Urbana

URBANA, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College men's basketball team concluded the 2015-16 regular season on a positive note, beating the host Urbana Blue Knights 109-91 on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons finish the regular season with an 18-10 overall record, including a 12-10 mark in Mountain East Conference play. NDC now heads into the upcoming Mountain East Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed, hosting No. 11 Virginia-Wise on Tuesday night in Murphy Gym at 7 pm.

Tyree Gaiter led the Falcons with a triple-double (32 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) against Urbana, shooting an even 50 percent (9-18 FGs) in the process.

Ja'Sean Lewis (26 points, 14 rebounds) and Will Vorhees (25 points, 7 rebounds) dominated the paint for the Falcons, combining to shoot 19-23 from the field. Meanwhile, Kyauta Taylor scored 22 points, reeled in eight rebounds and dished five assists 

The Falcons also dominated the perimeter, making 11-20 shots from three-point range.

NDC opened the game on a 19-5 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from Lewis with an assist from Natahn Kellum. From there, the Falcons never looked back. The Falcons maintained a double-digit lead throughout much of the first half, taking a 48-37 lead into the halftime intermission. 

Less than four minutes into the second half, the Falcons quickly pushed their lead back to 17 points, 58-41, following another three from Lewis.

From there, the Falcons spread the wealth on offense and cruised to a 109-91 road victory over the Blue Knights.

NDC will next return to action on Tuesday, March 1 at home against the No. 11 seed Virginia-Wise Cavaliers. The sixth-seeded Falcons swept the Cavaliers in the regular season, winning 100-83 at home and 91-77 on the road.

Tip-off on Tuesday is scheduled for 7 pm in Murphy Gym. The winner will advance to face third-seeded Fairmont State in the Quarterfinals.
