Falcons drop road battle at Concord, 85-75

Box Score
CONCORD, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame College men's basketball team took to the road on Saturday to take on the host Concord Mountain Lions in a Mountain East Conference showdown. The Falcons fell short in the road bout, losing the Mountain Lions by a final score of 85-75.

Tyree Gaiter led the Falcons with 31 points, seven assists and six steals. Meanwhile, Will Vorhees dropped 21 points on 10-18 shooting while reeling in eight rebounds as well.

The Falcons (17-9 overall, 11-9 MEC) and Mountain Lions exchanged punches for the entirety of the first half, with neither side able to pull away on the scoreboard. At halftime, NDC trailed Concord by just one, 44-43, and came out in the second half looking to take control.

Vorhees scored a lay-up at the 16:57 mark of the second half to keep the Falcons within two points, 52-50. However, a three-point barrage from the Mountain Lions had the Falcons trailing 69-54 with 10:42 remaining in the game.

But the Falcons refused to quit.

Gaiter scored seven straight points to cut the deficit to just eight, 69-61, as the Falcons clawed back into the game. A basket from Vorhees cut the deficit to just six, and the Falcons were in business.

However, that's as close as the Falcons would come as they couldn't narrow the gap any further, falling short by a final score of 85-75.

With the loss, the Falcons drop to 17-9 on the season, including an 11-9 mark in MEC play.

NDC will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 25 against No. 2 Wheeling Jesuit in the Falcons' final home game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm in Murphy Gym.
