Nagbe, Langenderfer lead the way with 20 points each

Box Score
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Saturday afternoon in Murphy Gym marked Martha Nagbe Day for the Notre Dame College women's basketball program, and the Falcons capped off the day with an 85-72 win over the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons.

Martha Nagbe and Lauren Langenderfer each scored 20 points for the Falcons, while grabbing nine and seven rebounds, respectively. Kim Cook also added 10 points for the Falcons, who have now won three straight Mountain East Conference contests.

NDC (16-8 overall, 13-5 MEC) fell behind early, trailing 27-19 after the first quarter. However, the Falcons rallied back with a strong second quarter, limiting FSU to just nine points in the period. Offensively, the Falcons scored 19 points of their own in the second, taking a 38-36 lead into the halftime intermission.

Taking a two-point lead into halftime, the Falcons knew they needed to separate themselves from FSU on the scoreboard. The Falcons did just that, as the second half was all NDC.

On the first possession of the second half, Cook nailed a 3-pointer for the Falcons, and Nagbe followed with a lay-up to push NDC's lead to seven points, 43-36. A lay-up from Celine Mangan pushed the lead to nine, and Langenderfer scored four straight points to take NDC's lead to 51-38 midway through the third quarter.

The Falcons opened the second half on a dominant 21-2 run, taking a 59-38 lead over Fairmont State with 4:13 remaining in the third quarter. Langenderfer scored 10 of her 20 points in the third quarter alone, and the Falcons went into the fourth quarter holding a 20-point lead over FSU, 66-46.

From there, the Falcons put the game on ice, using their team depth and defense to hold on for an 85-72 win over Fairmont State on Martha Nagbe Day.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 16-8 overall, including a 13-5 mark in MEC play.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday, Feb. 18 on the road against the Virginia-Wise Cavaliers. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
