Falcons cruise to 92-69 win over Shepherd

Four Falcons score in double-digits in victory

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College women's basketball team cruised to a 92-69 win over the Mountain East Conference rival Shepherd Rams on Thursday night in Murphy Gym.Four Falcons scored in double-figures as NDC picked up its second straight MEC victory.

Lauren Langenderfer led the Falcons with 25 points while making three of five shots from beyond the arc. Kim Cook scored a career-high 18 points, Martha Nagbe scored 17 and Hope Thorbahn added 15 more points for the Falcons.

Also headlining the evening was Nagbe, who became the all-time steals leader (303) in NDC women's basketball history, surpassing the previous record of 302 career steals.

The Falcons opened the game on strong footing, outscoring the Rams by a 22-14 margin in the first quarter. A back-and-forth second quarter kept the Falcons in front at halftime, 44-37.

Coming out of the halftime intermission with a seven-point lead, the Falcons were far from satisfied. Cook hit consecutive 3-pointer early in the second half, extending NDC's lead to 13 points, 52-39.

A pair of free throws from Langenderfer pushed the lead to 15 before Cook scored a lay-up to make NDC's lead 56-39. Langenderfer then added another basket to push the Falcons'  lead to 19 points, 58-39, with 6:06 remaining in the third quarter.

The Falcons continued to keep their foot on the pedal, as a 3-pointer from Nagbe kept NDC's lead at 19 points, 63-44, with 3:48 left in the third.

With just 37 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Langenderfer continued her strong play with yet another basket, extending NDC's lead to 72-49.

Going into the fourth quarter with a sizable advantage, the Falcons put the game on ice and cruised to the finish line, picking up a 92-69 win over the visiting Rams. With the win, the Falcons improve to 15-8 on the season, including a 12-5 mark in MEC play.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 at home against Fairmont State at 1 p.m. in Murphy Gym. Saturday is also Martha Nagbe Day as the Falcons will honor the all-time leading scorer in program history. Falcons fans are encouraged to wear blue to celebrate Martha Nagbe Day.
