CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Notre Dame College swimming and diving teams took to the road this past weekend to compete in a tri-meet against the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals and the host California-Pennsylvania Vulcans. The men's team competed against just WJU while the women's team squared off with both the Cardinals and Vulcans.

Amanda Cameron had an impressive day for the Falcons, posting a personal record in the 1000 Freestyle with a finish time of 11:59.48 for a fourth-place finish in the event.

Also scoring a fourth-place finish for the Falcons was Kaitlin Wright, who finished fourth in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:03.45. However, Wright's highest finish of the day was a third-place finish in the 500 Freestyle with a finish time of 5:37.65.

Lauren Speaks picked up a third-place finish as well, swimming the 200 IM in 2:28.53. She also picked up a fifth-place finish for NDC as her finish time of 1:12.86 was good for fifth in the 200 Breastroke.

"The team is training hard in the pool and I think the early results are showing this," said head coach Mark Dziak. "This also gives our team confidence as we head through the season and next month of the season."

Men's Swimming & Diving

On the men's side of competition, Andrew Wolens set the tone early for the Falcons. Just as Amanda Cameron set a PR in the 1000 Freestyle on the women's side, Wolens did the same on the men's side. Wolen had a personal-record time in the 1000 Freestyle, finishing the event in 11:56.10.

The Falcons also had a pair of first place finishes against WJU, led by David Souza and Austin Childers. Souza won the 50 Freestyle in 21.99 seconds before also winning the 100 Freestyle in 49.03 seconds. As for Childers, he won the 200 Freestyle in 1:51.23, claiming a first-place finish of his own.

"This was one of our better dual meet performances in recent memory, particularly with it being early in the season, it is a Friday night, and we were on the road," said Coach Dziak. "Our next meet isn't for two weeks when we host our first home meet against conference rival Urbana on November 4. We'll be looking forward to competing against them and hopefully we can get a good crowd to the pool to cheer on our team."

The NDC men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Friday, Nov. 4 at home against the Urbana Blue Knights at 6 pm in Mellon Pool.
