Box Score GLENVILLE, W.Va -- After a two week break from competition, the Notre Dame College women's basketball team returned to action Monday night in a Mountain East Conference contest against the host Glenville State Pioneers. The Falcons used a team effort and strong defense to pick up an impressive road victory, beating the Pioneers 92-80.
The Falcons (5-6, 2-3 MEC) held GSC to just 37.7 percent shooting on the night, forcing 25 turnovers in the process.
Martha Nagbe scored 20 points on 4-5 shooting, making both 3-pointers and 10-11 free throws in the process.
Lexi Hassing (7-11 FGs) and
Kelsey Miller (6-9 FGs) scored 15 points a piece while combining for 17 rebounds as well.Â
NDC jumped out to an early 25-14 lead in the first quarter, making eight of 11 shots to start the game. The Falcons led by eight, 31-23, after one quarter of play.
After a 31-point first quarter, the Falcons were held to just 11 points in the second quarter as the pace of the game slowed for both sides. NDC held GSC to just 16 points in the second, and went into halftime still leading, 42-39.
Coming out of the halftime intermission, the Falcons opened the third quarter on a 13-2 run to balloon their lead to 14 points, 55-41. In the final 1:30 of the third quarter, Miller and
Jessica Garcia drilled back-to-back threes to give NDC a 70-51 lead going into the fourth.
From there, the Falcons pushed their lead to as much as 25 points in the fourth, and held on for a 92-80 road win over the Pioneers.
The win snaps GSC's four-game win streak and gives NDC a much-needed MEC victory. The Falcons improve to 5-6 overall, including 2-3 in MEC play with the win.
NDC returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at West Virginia Wesleyan in another MEC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
