Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College women's basketball team fell short to the visiting Glenville State College Pioneers on Saturday afternoon in Murphy Gym, 71-62. The loss to GSC snaps NDC's 10-game win streak, as the Falcons fall to 13-7 overall, including a 10-4 mark in Mountain East Conference play.
Kim Cook led the Falcons with a career-high 17 points on 7-14 shooting, including three 3-pointers and eight rebounds.
Martha Nagbe had 11 points and five assists for the Falcons.
The Falcons opened the game with a dominant first quarter, taking a 20-8 lead after one quarter of play. However, the Pioneers responded with a strong second quarter of their own, outscoring NDC 18-11 to cut into the Falcons' lead.
At halftime, the Falcons held a five-point advantage over the Pioneers, 31-26.
Celine Mangan opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer, pushing the Falcons' lead to eight points, 34-26, early in the half.
Both sides traded buckets over the next few minutes, but a lay-up from
Lauren Langenderfer extended NDC's lead to nine points, 44-35, with 3:42 remaining in the third quarter.
Kim Cook then hit a 3-pointer to push the Falcons' lead to 47-35 with less than three minutes remaining in the third.
However, the Pioneers posted a run of their own, cutting NDC's lead to just two points, 47-45, going into the fourth and final quarter of play.
Ths score was tied 51-51 with seven minutes remaining in the game before Cook hit back-to-back lay-ups to give the Falcons a 55-51 lead over GSC. An 8-0 run from the Pioneers, however, had the Falcons trailing 59-55 with 2:36 remaining.
On NDC's next possession, Nagbe drained a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to two, but the Pioneers responded with a 3-pointer to push their lead to five, 62-57.
From there, the Falcons fell short to the visiting Pioneers, losing 71-62. With the loss, the Falcons drop to 13-7 overall, including a 10-4 mark in MEC play.
NDC will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 4 on the road against the Charleston Golden Eagles. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
