BROOKVILLE, N.Y. -- After a three week break from action for the holidays, the Notre Dame College wrestling team hit the mats again on Sunday afternoon and showed no rust at the Long Island Post Duals, hosted by LIU Post. The Falcons defeated UNC Pembroke 34-9 before defeating LIU Post 33-10 in a successful day of competition.

Freshman J.T. Ayers gave the Falcons momentum to start the day, pinning UNC's Josh Brown to give the Falcons an early 6-0 lead in the meet.
David Bavery (133 lbs) and
Isaac Dulgarian (149 lbs) both picked up wins via Major Decision, winning 10-2 and 11-2, respectively.
At 184 lbs,
Joey Davis improved to 111-0 in his collegiate career as he defeated UNC's Mikey Thomas via Tech Fall, 17-1.
The Falcons also saw strong performances out of former national champions
Jonatan Rivera (157 lbs) and
Garrett Lineberger (197 lbs) as they won 5-3 and 8-3, respectively.
NDC won eight of the 10 matches against UNC Pembroke, leading to a dominant 34-9 victory for the Falcons.

After an impressive win over UNC Pembroke to start the day, the Falcons squared off with the host LIU Post Pioneers in their second and final meet of the day.
Jacob Goodwin replaced J.T. Ayers at 125 lbs but earned the same result as Ayers, defeating LIU's Tyler Walsh via Pinfall to give the Falcons an early 6-0 lead once again.
Bavery picked up another win at 133 lbs, winning 11-6 over LIU's Joe Calderone. Dulgarian then made quick work of his second match, winning via Pinfall at the 1:33 mark to help the Falcons' cause.
Joey Davis improved to 112-0 in his career with a Tech Fall win at 184 lbs, 20-4 over LIU's Ronnie King. Meanwhile,
Jonatan Rivera won 11-2 at 157 lbs while brother and teammate
Justan Rivera won 15-8 at 174 lbs.
In total, the Falcons won eight of the nine matches against the Pioneers, as well as one injury forfeit as well. NDC defeated LIU Post by a final match score of 33-10.
NDC will return to action on Friday, Jan. 8 and Saturday, Jan. 9 at the NWCA Division II National Duals in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
