Fourth quarter fireworks lead Falcons to 10th straight win, 77-63, over WVWC

Falcons outscore Bobcats 24-8 in final quarter for comeback win

Box Score
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame College Falcons picked up their 10th straight win with a 77-63 win over West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Thursday night. The Falcons trailed by double-digits early in the first half, but rallied back with a dominant 24-8 fourth quarter to pick up yet another Mountain East Conference victory.

The Falcons (13-6, 10-3 MEC) trailed 23-11 after the first quarter, but outscored the Bobcats 66-40 over the last three quarters of action to take control of the game.

Martha Nagbe and Lauren Langenderfer both led the Falcons with 15 points a piece. Nagbe had seven rebounds and five assists while Langenderfer had nine rebounds and three assists.

Trailing 23-11 going into the second quarter, the Falcons opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run, keyed by baskets from Terrina Robinson and Alyssa Kraus. NDC eventually cut the deficit to just one, 29-28, following a Nagbe free throw with 4:14 remaining before halftime.

At halftime, the Falcons trailed by just four, 38-34, after a strong second quarter gave the team momentum going into the second half.

Langenderfer opened the third quarter with a lay-up, spurring an 11-6 run that gave the Falcons a 45-44 lead midway through the third.

However, the Bobcats responded with a run of their own, to take a 55-50 lead over NDC late in the third quarter. Nagbe responded for the Falcons, draining a 3-pointer as the clock expired to end the third quarter as the Falcons trailed by just two, 55-53, going into the fourth.

The fourth and final quarter of action was all Falcons.

After Nagbe closed the third quarter with a 3-pointer, Celine Mangan opened the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer of her own, giving NDC the lead again, 56-55. A few possessions later, Mangan drilled another three as the Falcons began to find offensive momentum.

The Bobcats used a Tara Goldman lay-up to cut the Falcons lead to just two, 61-59, with 7:03 remaining in the game.

From there, the Falcons ended the game on a 16-4 run, distancing themselves from the visiting Bobcats. A 3-pointer from Langenderfer with 4:19 remaining pushed the lead to 70-61, and NDC used dominant defense to cruise to the finish line, winning 77-63 over WVWC.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 13-6 overall, including 10-3 in Mountain East Conference play. The 10-game win streak is the program's longest such streak since the 2012-13 season, when the Falcons also won 10 consecutive games.

NDC will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 30 at home against Glenville State College in another MEC showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm in Murphy Gym.
