Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va -- Playing their second road game of their weekend swing trip, the Notre Dame College men's basketball team squared off with the Mountain East Conference rival Shepherd Rams.
Tyree Gaiter scored 32 points and dished eight assists while leading the Falcons to a 91-83 road victory over the Rams on Monday night.
Gaiter came into Monday afternoon's road contest at Shepherd with 1,994 career points in a Falcons uniform, and needed just six points to reach the 2,000 point career milestone marker. At the 10:38 mark of the first half on Monday, Gaiter hit a 3-pointer to eclipse the 2,000 point mark, and also gave NDC a 23-18 lead.
Two minutes later, Gaiter hit another jumper to extend NDC's lead to 10 points, 28-18.
The Falcons pushed their lead to as large as 16 points, 43-27, late in the first half, led by a strong first half explosion from
Kyauta Taylor and Will Voorhees.
Taylor scored 18 of his 21 points in the first half alone, shooting 7-9 overall and 4-6 on threes. Meanwhile, Voorhees scored 13 points in the first half on 5-8 shooting from the floor to aid the Falcons.
At halftime, the Falcons offensive barrage led to a 47-32 advantage over the Rams.
In the second half, NDC continued efficient offensive play, shooting 48 percent from the field while making 21-24 free throws as well. Gaiter scored 23 of his 32 points in the second half to pace the Falcons, making 16-17 free throws himself.
Behind clutch free throws from Gaiter, the Falcons held on for a gritty 91-83 road win over the host Rams.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 11-5 on the season, including a 5-5 mark in MEC play.
NDC will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 21 at home against Urbana University in another MEC battle. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm in Murphy Gym.
