Box Score 2 SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Falcons hosted the visiting West Virginia State Yellow Jackets in a Mountain East Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, but fell short in the twin bill, losing 10-3 and 8-0, respectively.
GAME ONEWV State 10, Notre Dame 3The Yellow Jackets scored one run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead before tacking on five more runs in the top of the second. NDC threatened in the bottom half of the inning after
Nicole Paolucci singled and
Maria Vanadia walked, but couldn't captialize on the situation.Â
The Falcons jumped on the scoreboard in the fifth inning, starting with a pair of singles from
Amy Hoover and
Kelsey Coleman.
Mackenzie Wallace reached base via bunt single, and a throwing error allowed the first Falcons runs of the game.
Kayla Sidorski hit an RBI single up the middle to keep the rally going, and the Falcons finished the inning with two runs and a bit of momentum on their side.Â
However, WV State scored three more runs in the top of the sixth and it it was too-little, too-late for the Falcons, who fell short 10-3.
GAME TWOWV State 8, Notre Dame 0Game two of Sunday's doubleheader was also a tough go for the Falcons, who fell behind 2-0 in the third inning after a mini Yellow Jackets rally. WV State scored three more runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 5-0, and added three more insurance runs in the seventh inning.
Amy Hoover finished the game 1-for-2 with a walk while
Ashley Hall struck out eight hitters on the day.
The Falcons will return to action on Tuesday, April 21 at home against Urbana in their final home games of the regular season. Game one is a scheduled for 3:00 p.m. start time.
