Box Score 2 WEST LIBERTY, W.Va -- Playing their second road doubleheader of the weekend, the Falcons squared off with the West Liberty Hilltoppers in a Mountain East Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon. Dominant pitching and strong defense led the way for the Falcons, who swept the series by respective scores of 4-1 and 6-0.

Kelsey Coleman took matters into her own hands, leading off the game with a single. After two consecutive outs, Coleman stole second base, but an overthrow from the WLU catcher allowed Coleman to advance to third, and another overthrow from center field allowed Coleman to round third base and head home to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead early.
In the bottom of the inning,
Ashley Pokraka found her groove early as she struck out two of the three batters she faced for an easy 1-2-3 frame.
Pokraka continued to mow through the Hilltoppers lineup as she allowed just two baserunners in the first four innings.
The Falcons offense struggled to score more runs after the first inning, but Pokraka continued to mow through the Hilltoppers lineup, allowing just two baserunners in the first four innings.
Amy Hoover led off the top of the fifth with a single up the middle, and Coleman continued to rake as she singled as well, putting two Falcons on base with no outs. A sacrifice bunt from
Mackenzie Wallace advanced Hoover to third and Coleman to second, and a sacrifice fly from
Kayla Sidorski scored Hoover from third to make the score 2-0.
Anna Myers kept the rally going as she ripped an RBI triple to right-center, scoring Coleman and giving the Falcons a 3-0 lead through five innings.
A pair of hits in the bottom of the frame led to one run for the Hilltoppers, but that was all as Pokraka squashed any comeback attempts.
In the top of the seventh, the Falcons scored one more insurance run and Pokraka closed out the game from there, leading to a 4-1 win for NDC.Â
GAME TWONotre Dame 6, West Liberty 0The second game of Sunday's doubleheader also saw great pitching from the Falcons, as this time it was
Ashley Hall on the bump. Hall worked a scoreless first inning before going 1-2-3 in the second inning against the Hilltoppers.
In the top of the third,
Maria Vanadia worked a one-out walk and consecutive singles from
Amy Hoover and
Kelsey Coleman loaded the bases with just one out. A Hilltoppers error allowed Hoover to score from third, and an RBI single from
Anna Myers scored Coleman to give NDC a 2-0 lead through three.
Little did the Falcons know at the time, those would be the only runs they would need all game as Hall continued to dominate.
After Hall went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Falcons scored once more in the fifth as a single from
Kayla Sidorski scored Hoover, who tripled to reach base.
In the top of the sixth, NDC tacked on another run via RBI single from Vanadia, scoring
Sarah Depp in the process. Hall worked another 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the sixth, and the Falcons went into the seventh leading 4-0.
NDC scored two more runs in the top of the seventh for added insurance, and Hall closed out the game, leading to a 6-0 win for the Falcons.
The Falcons will next play on Thursday, April 16 at Walsh University in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
