Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Ohio -- In a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for Monday but postponed due to cold weather, the Falcons took to the road to face the 15-1 Ashland University Eagles. Unfortunately, the Falcons fell short in the pair of games against the Eagles, losing 8-1 and 11-3.
GAME ONEAshland 8, Notre Dame 1Ashley Pokraka took the mound and pitched a scoreless first inning before defensive miscues plagued the Falcons in the second inning. The Eagles capitalized and also tallied three hits to score three runs, one earned, and take a 3-0 lead.
After hitting a single to lead off the game,
Kelsey Coleman continued a dominant 2015 campaign with a home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 3-1. In the bottom of the third, Pokraka continued an impressive outing, holding the Eagles scoreless.
With the score still 3-1,
Ashley Hall came on to pitch in the bottom of the fourth and induced a double play to breeze through the inning.
However, the Eagles plated one run in the fifth before scoring four in the sixth inning, going on to win 8-1 over the Falcons.
Coleman finished the game 2-for-3 with a home run and Pokraka finished the game having allowed just one earned run in three innings pitched.
GAME TWOAshland 11, Notre Dame 3 (6 innings)Game two of Wednesday's doubleheader featured a strong offensive showing by the Eagles early. Ashland scored two runs in the first and four runs in the second to take a 6-0 lead through two innings.
However, the Falcons proved resilient with an offensive outpour in the top of the third.
Mackenzie Wallace led off the inning with a single, and
Kayla Sidorski ripped a triple to center field, scoring Wallace in the process.
Nicole Spuhler again came up clutch once again with an RBI single to left field, scoring Sidorski and cutting the deficit to 6-2.Â
But the rally wasn't done there.
Tayler Graver smacked an RBI double that scored Spuhler and cut the deficit to 6-3 after three innings of play.
However, the Eagles tacked on more runs in the fourth inning and eventually pulled away with an 11-3 win in six innings over the Falcons.
Wallace finished the game 3-for-4 with one run scored while Graver went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
