Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va -- In the midst of a three-game Mountain East Conference road trip, the Falcons took to the road on Monday night against the host Fairmont State Fighting Falcons. Both sides battled throughout the first half, but FSU pulled away in the second half and defeated NDC by a final score of 75-62.
On the first possession of the game,
Molly Ritz dished a pass to
Celine Mangan, who drained a 3-pointer for the first basket of the game. A few minutes later,
Kelsey Miller drained a 3-pointer of her own to give NDC an 8-6 lead with 15:43 remaining in the first half.
FSU responded with a 12-6 run of its own to take the 18-14 lead. However, another 3-pointer from Mangan was followed by a lay-up from Miller, and the visiting Falcons took the lead back, 19-18, prompting an FSU timeout.
With the first half nearing an end, Miller hit another shot from deep, assisted by
Jessica Garcia, to bring NDC to within two, 34-32. FSU hit a 3-pointer of its own with 1:01 remaining in the half, and NDC trailed 37-32 at the intermission.
In the second half, a pair of quick buckets pushed FSU's lead to 10 with 18:34 remaining in the game. Minutes later with 11:49 remaining in the game, Mangan assisted Miller on a lay-up, cutting the deficit to just six, 56-50.
However, an 8-0 run from the Fighting Falcons over the next two minutes pushed their lead to 14 - their largest of the game to that point.
From there, the Falcons couldn't close the gap as they fell short against FSU, losing by a final score of 75-62 on the road.Â
With the loss, the Falcons fall to 6-6 on the season, including 2-4 in MEC play. NDC will next play on Thursday, Jan. 8 on the road against West Virginia Wesleyan.
