Falcons perform well against Alderson Broaddus

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- It was Senior Day for the Notre Dame College swimmingnd diving teams on Saturday afternoon as the Falcons hosted the visiting Alderson Broaddus Battlers at Mellen Pool. The men's team fell short against the Battlers, 110-84, while the women's team came away with an impressive 110-61 win.

Women's Swimming and Diving 
Competing in the final home meet of the 2014-15 season, the Falcons used the occasion to celebrate Rachel McNeil, Jessie Drogemuller and Kelsi Turk. 

McNeil started off the day with a win, helping lead the Falcons to a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay.The quartet of Raquel Licea, Katie Wright, Raquel Loustau and McNeil took first with a finish time of 2:00.35. She also placed first in the 200 Breastroke with a time of 2:52.53, scoring nine points for NDC.

Drogemuller also had a strong showing on Senior Day, winning the 200 Freestyle (2:06.42) and 500 Freestyle (5:38.35). She was also part of the Falcons' winning quartet in the 200 Freestyle Relay as she teamed with Licea, Loustau and Turk to take first place in the event.

Along with winning in the 200 Freestyle Relay, Turk also finished first in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:24.89 - 15 seconds better than second place. In the 1000 Freestyle, Turk set a Mellon Pool record as she won the event with a time of 11:01.28.

Led by strong showing from their three seniors, the Falcons defeated the Battlers, 110-61. 

The regular season is now over for the Falcons, and they will turn their attention to the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships on Thursday, Feb. 12 through Saturday, Feb. 14.

Men's Swimming and Diving
The men's team was without any seniors to celebrate on Senior Day, but still had numerous impressive performances against the Battlers on Saturday. 

Austin Childers came away with a second place finish in the 200 Freestyle, finish with a time of 1:54.20 to net four points for the Falcons. In the 50 Freestyle, Nate Hagar (23.48) and Jorden Welton (23.90) finished second and third, respectively, to score a combined seven points.

Andrew Brandt had an impressive showing in the 400 IM, taking first place with a time of 4:25.43 to help the Falcons' cause. Brandt also finished second in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:20.18.

The Falcons picked up another first place finish in the 200 Butterfly as Conner Heslin won the event in 2:05.63.

NDC also dominated in the 100 Freestyle as the top three placers were all Falcons. Jeffrey Saltzgaber (49.14), Mitchell Schall (51.01) and Hagar (51.39) rounded out the top three finishers. 

However, despite an impressive team effort, the Falcons fell short against the Battlers, losing 110-84.

The regular season is now over for the Falcons, and they will turn their attention to the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships on Thursday, Feb. 12 through Saturday, Feb. 14.
