WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- At the site of this year's NCAA Regional tournament, the Falcons came away with a convincing, 25-9 victory over West Liberty.
The dual meet opened with a tightly contested battle at 125, where
Jacob Goodwin lost a very close match against Zach Brown, in an 8-6 decision.
It didn't take long for the Falcons to earn those three points back, as
Ivan McClay came right back with a very impressive, 8-1 victory over WLU's Jog Wagstaff in the 133 lbs. battle.
Maurice Miller then stepped in to provide a huge victory for the Falcons at 141, with 5-3 decision over Anthony Craig to give the Falcons a 6-3 advantage.
Notre Dame continued to roll along, as
Andrew Bannister picked up a victory at 149, with a 5-1 decision over Joel Paolo, giving the Falcons a 9-3 lead.
Defending national champ,
Jonatan Rivera kept the NDC streak alive, as he added to the Falcon lead with a convincing, 10-3 victory at 157 to push the NDC edge to 12-3.
Louden Gordon followed Rivera's victory, by taking care of business at 165, winning a 7-2 decision over DeMadre Turner, increasing the NDC advantage to 15-3.
NDC's string of four straight victories in the dual meet came to an end at 174, when WLU's Eric Antesberger came away with a 5-1 victory over
Cody Allala.
The Falcons were able to neutralize any WLU momentum at 184, when
Garrett Lineberger provided a huge victory, with a Tech Fall (17-0) at the 3:36-mark over Danny Doyle, giving NDC a 20-6 lead.
Garrett Linton followed with another big Tech Fall victory at the 5:00-mark (18-1) for the Falcons at 194, essentially putting the dual meet away.
The contest came to a close with WLU's Aaron Silverio pulling out a 2-1 decision over
Logan Rimmer at 285.
The Falcons will be in action again on Friday, Feb. 6, when they host their final home contest of the season, as they welcome Alderson Broaddus (WV) to Murphy Gymnasium. The dual meet is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
