Box Score ATHENS, W.Va -- The Notre Dame College women's basketball team came into Saturday's game against Concord having won six of their last seven contests. The Falcons used a pressurous defensive effort to stifle the host Mountain Lions, picking up a 76-62 victory on the road.
The battle between NDC and CU was closely contested as a 3-pointer from
Ciara Reed tied the game at 12 early in the first half. Thirteen points later for each side, the Falcons and Mountain Lions were tied at 25 with 5:25 left in the first half.
Then the Falcons defense turned up the pressure, turning missed shots into easy points on the other end. The Falcons went on a 16-8 run in the final five minutes of the first half, capped off by a buzzer beater from
Kim Cook to push the lead to 41-33 at halftime.
A quick 5-0 run from the Mountain Lions at the start of the second half cut NDC's lead to just three, 41-38.
Martha Nagbe then responded with a lay-up and 3-pointer on consecutive possessions, pushing the lead back to eight, 46-38.
Concord stormed back to eventually cut the deficit to just two, 49-47, with 11:54 remaining in the game.
The Falcons responded with a 14-2 run over the next two minutes, highlighted by 3-pointers from Nagbe and Miller, pushing the lead to 63-51 with 7:18 remaining.
NDC led by double digits for the remainder of the game, holding on for a 76-62 win over the Concord.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 13-7 on the season, including a 9-5 mark in Mountain East Conference play. The Falcons are also 12-1 when holding opponents to 70 points or less this season.
NDC will return to action on Monday, Feb. 2 on the road at the University of Virginia-Wise Cavaliers. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
