Follow @NDCSoftball on InstagramSOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The Notre Dame College softball team claimed a walk-off win in game two of Saturday's Senior Day Mountain East Conference double header against Glenville State. The Falcons (21-27-1, 11-12-1 MEC) claimed a 5-4 victory in game two having dropped game one 4-1 to the visiting Pioneers (17-25, 9-17 MEC).
Prior to the games the Falcons honored seniors
Christine Camp and
Jessica Cavallero. The pair would go a combined 6 for 11 on the day and score four of the Falcons runs including the walk-off game winning runs in the days second game.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in game one with
Nataly Ciocca scoring on wild pitch after both she and
Kelsey Coleman had singled in the bottom of the third. Glenville tied the game in the top of the fourth and then scored twice in the top of the sixth and once in the top of the seventh to claim a 4-1 victory.
NDC started game two on top with
Ashley Hall retiring the Glenville State lineup in order over the first three innings. Hall struck out seven of the first nine batters she faced and would go on to claim a season high 13 strike outs in the game.
The Falcons took the lead in the bottom of the second as
Sarah Depp batted in
Christine Camp. Camp had singled to left field before being advanced to second on a sac bunt from
Nicole Spuhler and then stealing third. The Pioneers would tie the game 1-1 in top of the fourth, before the Falcons took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Glenville would score twice in the top of the sixth before the Falcons pulled a run back in the bottom of the sixth to lead 4-3 going into the seventh. The Pioneers would fail to extend their lead and NDC headed into the bottom of the seventh trailing by one.
As scripted for senior day it was the senior duo of
Jessica Cavallero and
Christine Camp who led off the seventh inning with a pair of singles.
Nicole Spuhler would then single to load the bases. Freshman
Lydia Coccitto would provide the walk off hit, as Cavallero came sliding in to home plate the ball was dislodged from the catcher's mitt which allowed Camp to slide in to secure a 5-4 victory.
The Falcons will conclude their inaugural home season on Normandy Field with a Mountain East Conference double header against West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday April 27. With first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
