Falcons and Cavaliers Split As NDC Sock It 2 Breast Cancer

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The Notre Dame College softball team split a non-conference double header against Walsh University on Wednesday afternoon. In the first game the Falcons (20-26-1, 10-11-1 MEC) dropped a 6-1 decision to the Cavaliers (26-17). NDC however would bounce back in game two to claim a 5-1 win.

Playing in pink as part of Notre Dame College Athletics "Sock It 2 Breast Cancer Campaign" the Falcons struggled at the plate in game one and were limited to just three hits. Walsh would take a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning courtesy of three consecutive hits. The Falcons would pull one run back in the bottom of the sixth after singles from Kelsey Coleman (Suffield, Ohio, Field), Rachelle Miller (New Castle, Pa. , Mohawk) and Anissa Kotoch (Willoughby Hills, Ohio, Kent State University). The Cavaliers however would add a run in the seventh and claim a 6-1 victory.

The Falcons produced a better performance in game two and opened the scoring immediately in the bottom of the first after a single from Kotoch and a throwing error from the Cavaliers. NDC would add two more runs in the bottom of the third as a Jessica Cavallero (Rohnert Park, Calif. , Tallahassee Community College) single scored Miller and then Kotoch scored on a ground out from Christine Camp (Sterling, Ohio, Loudonville).

The lead would be extended to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth as doubles from Maria Vanadia (Medina, Ohio, Medina HS) and Cavallero and an RBI from Camp added two more runs for the Falcons. Walsh pulled a run back in the top of the sixth inning but were unable to score in the seventh and NDC claimed the split and a 5-1 victory. Ashley Hall (North Canton, Ohio, Hoover) pitched a complete game for the Falcons to claim her eleventh win of the season. Hall limited the Cavaliers to just four hits, in addition she did not walk a batter and struck out six.

The Falcons will continue their run of eight home games on Saturday April 26. When they take on Glenville State in a Mountain East Conference double header. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on what will be senior day for the Falcons. Prior to the game the team will honor its two seniors Christine Camp and Jessica Cavallero, who will be playing their final home games for Notre Dame College over the weekend.
