SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The Notre Dame College softball team went to extra innings in both games in Tuesday afternoon's Mountain East Conference double header against Urbana University. In the first game the Falcons (19-25-1, 10-11-1 MEC) dropped an 8-5 decision to the Blue Knights (24-15-1, 16-7-1 MEC) in eight innings. The days second game fell foul to deteriorating light conditions and was called with the scores tied 1-1 in the eighth inning.

The Falcons took an early lead in game one with two runs in the bottom of the first. Singles from Rachelle Miller (New Castle, Pa. , Mohawk), Anissa Kotoch (Willoughby Hills, Ohio, Kent State University) and Jessica Cavallero (Rohnert Park, Calif. , Tallahassee Community College) scored the runs for the Falcons. Urbana would pull one run back in the second and then took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third.

NDC would regain the lead in the bottom of the third, Maria Vanadia (Medina, Ohio, Medina HS) would double to get into scoring position and was then scored by a Christine Camp (Sterling, Ohio, Loudonville) double. Kayla Sidorski (Eastlake, Ohio, Willoughby South) would then single to score Camp and give the Falcons a 4-3 lead.

Kelsey Coleman (Suffield, Ohio, Field) would lead off the fourth inning with a double and then steal third before being scored by a Cavallero single to give the Falcons a 5-3 lead. The Blue Knights however would tie the game with a run in the fifth and seventh innings and the game would go to extra innings.

In extras Urbana would get hot, hitting two home runs to take an 8-5 lead, which is how the game would finish as the Falcons were unable to score in the bottom of the eighth.

Game two was an equally tense affair as the Falcons and Blue Knights battled through eight innings in fading light before the game was called at the end of the eighth inning due to poor light.

Urbana took the lead with a solo home run in the first inning which was then matched by the Falcons and Sidorski in the bottom of the third. The game would remain tied 1-1 to its conclusion.

The Falcons will return to Normandy Field tomorrow, Wednesday April 23. for a double header against Walsh University.
