Institute, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College softball team dropped a pair of 6-5 decisions at West Virginia State in a Mountain East Conference double header on Saturday afternoon.

In game one the Falcons (19-24, 10-10 MEC) had a 4 run rally in the top of the sixth, but it was not enough as WVSU claimed a 5-4 victory. The Yellow Jackets (24-20, 12-10 MEC) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second before the Falcons pulled a run back in the top of the third, when an Anissa Kotoch (Willoughby Hills, Ohio, Kent State University) single to second base scored Rachelle Miller (New Castle, Pa. , Mohawk).

The Yellow Jackets, however would score a run in the bottom of the third and three in the bottom of the fifth to lead 6-1. NDC would score four runs in the bottom of the sixth, courtesy of singles from Nicole Spuhler (Massillon, Ohio, Washington ), Kayla Sidorski (Eastlake, Ohio, Willoughby South), Alex McKinley (Mantua, Ohio, Crestwood HS) and Maria Vanadia (Medina, Ohio, Medina HS). The Falcons however would fail to score in the bottom of the seventh and dropped a 5-4 decision.

In game two the Falcons took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Coleman and Miller both singled before Vanadia was walked to load the bases. An Kotoch single scored Coleman, a sac fly from Jessica Cavallero (Rohnert Park, Calif. , Tallahassee Community College) would scored Miller, Spuhler grounded out to score Vanadia and a Sidorski single would score Kotoch.

The Falcons would score again in the top of the second to lead 5-0, after Coleman was scored by Cavallero. The five early runs for the Falcons however would not be enough as the Yellow Jackets scored five in the bottom of the sixth and then secured the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Saturday's double header end a stretch of ten games in seven days, in which the Falcons went an even 5-5. The Falcons return home to Normandy Field on Tuesday April 22. to take on the Blue Knights from Urbana. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
