Charleston, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College softball team split a Mountain East Conference double header at the University of Charleston on Friday afternoon. The Falcons (19-22, 10-8 MEC) dropped  a 4-1 victory in game two, before defeating the Golden Eagles 5-4 in game two.

Kelsey Coleman (Suffield, Ohio, Field) started an impressive day with a solo home run in the Falcons first at bat in game one. This was the second game this year that Coleman has started a game off with a home run and was also her eighth home run of the season.

Coleman's home run, however would be the only score for the Falcons in game one as they were limited to just two hits. Charleston were able to score four runs on eight hits to claim a 4-1 victory in game one.

The Falcons batters would prove to be much more effective in game two, combining for five runs on 12 hits.

NDC opened the scoring in the top of the first after a UC error allowed Rachelle Miller (New Castle, Pa. , Mohawk) to score after singles from Coleman and Anissa Kotoch (Willoughby Hills, Ohio, Kent State University). Charleston would claim a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, before the Falcons pulled a run back in the top of the fifth. A single from Nicole Spuhler (Massillon, Ohio, Washington ) would score Jessica Cavallero (Rohnert Park, Calif. , Tallahassee Community College) who had singled and then been advanced to scoring position by a Christine Camp (Sterling, Ohio, Loudonville) single.

The Falcons would take a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning as Coleman homered for the second time on the day, ninth time this season, to score Lydia Coccitto (Conneaut, Ohio, Conneaut HS) who had entered the game to pinch run for Alex McKinley (Mantua, Ohio, Crestwood HS) who had a lead off single.

The Golden Eagles would draw level in the bottom of the sixth before McKinley drove in Camp in the top of the seventh to score what would be the game winning run, as Ashley Hall (North Canton, Ohio, Hoover) blanked UC in the bottom of the seventh to claim a 5-4 win, her tenth of the season.

Kelsey Coleman (Suffield, Ohio, Field) produced a dominant batting display on Saturday going a combined 4 for 5 over the two games. Her four hits came in the form of two home runs and two singles, in addition Coleman was walked twice and had two RBI's and two runs.

The Falcons will finish their West Virginian road trip with a double header at West Virginia State on Saturday April 19. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
