ELKINS, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College softball team split a twin bill at Davis & Elkins on Thursday afternoon. In a non-conference match up the Falcons (18-21, 9-7 MEC) took game one 8-6, before falling 6-3 to the Senators (11-24) in game two.

The Falcons started game one in emphatic fashion with Kelsey Coleman (Suffield, Ohio, Field), Rachelle Miller (New Castle, Pa. , Mohawk) and Anissa Kotoch (Willoughby Hills, Ohio, Kent State University) all reaching base. With the bases loaded Kayla Sidorski (Eastlake, Ohio, Willoughby South) hit a grand slam home run to left center. The home run was her fourth of the season to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead.

NDC would add a further run in the second inning courtesy of a solo home run from Coleman, her eighth of the season. Davis & Elkins pulled two runs back in the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the fifth, but the Falcons would score twice in the top of the fifth on a Maria Vanadia (Medina, Ohio, Medina HS) single to lead 7-4 going into the sixth inning.

On the mound for the Falcons Mackenzie Wallace (Copley, Ohio, Copley) would limit the Senators to just four hits and two runs in the final two innings to secure an 8-6 victory for the Falcons. Wallace pitched a complete game to claim her eighth win of the season and her fourth in a row.

In the second game the Falcons were limited to just three runs on five hits as the Senators claimed a split with a 6-3 victory.

The Falcons fell behind early as D & E scored four runs in the bottom of the second. NDC would pull a run back in the third and two in fifth but the Senators would score twice in the fourth to win 6-3.

The Falcons will continue their West Virginia road trip with a double header at the University of Charleston on Friday April 18. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
