Follow @NDCSoftball on InstagramSOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The Notre Dame College softball team swept the West Liberty Hilltoppers, Sundayday afternoon on Normandy Field, in Mountain East Conference action. NDC (17-20, 9-7 MEC) won game one 10-3 and then took game two 10-2 in five innings. The two wins complete a season sweep of the Hilltoppers (8-31, 1-15 MEC) for the Falcons.
Mackenzie Wallace (Copley, Ohio, Copley) claimed her third straight win in game one as the Falcons scored ten runs on eight hits and limited the Hilltoppers to just three runs on ten hits.
The Falcons took control of the game immediately scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. A
Kayla Sidorski (Eastlake, Ohio, Willoughby South) single to right field scored
Rachelle Miller (New Castle, Pa. , Mohawk) and
Nicole Spuhler (Massillon, Ohio, Washington ), before three Falcons scored courtesy of a walk and two wild pitches.
West Liberty pulled runs back in the top of the second and third innings but the Falcons would score once in the second and then twice in the fifth. In the fifth a
Christine Camp (Sterling, Ohio, Loudonville) triple scored
Nataly Ciocca (Macedonia, Ohio, Nordonia HS) who had singled to the left side.
Kelsey Coleman (Suffield, Ohio, Field) then hit her sixth home run of the season with a solo shot to left center.
The Falcons would score two further runs in the bottom of the sixth, courtesy of a
Jessica Cavallero (Rohnert Park, Calif. , Tallahassee Community College) double that scored Sidorski and a
Maria Vanadia (Medina, Ohio, Medina HS) single to right center that scored Cavallero. West Liberty would fail to score in the top of the seventh and the Falcons secured a 10-3 victory.
In the second game of the day the Falcons would again score ten runs, this time on seven hits. On the Mound
Ashley Hall (North Canton, Ohio, Hoover) secured her ninth win of the season, limiting the Hilltoppers to just two runs on five hits.
NDC led 2-0 after the first inning with Coleman singling up the middle, stealing second and then scoring on a Sidorski ground out to the short stop. Miller would then score on a wild pitch.
The Falcons used a big second inning to take control of the game, scoring six runs. A double from Miller to left center scored Coleman and Camp and then a Vanadia double to right center would score Cavallero, Sidorski and Miller to give the Falcons an 8-0 lead.
West Liberty pulled two runs back in the bottom of the third but the Falcons would secure a five inning 10-2 run rule victory with runs in the fourth and fifth.
The Falcons will have a day off on Monday before taking on the Oilers from Findlay on Tuesday April 15, on Normandy Field. First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
