Follow @NDCSoftball on InstagramSOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The Notre Dame College Falcon softball team split with the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals, Saturday afternoon on Normandy Field, in Mountain East Conference action. NDC (15-20, 7-7 MEC) took the first game 5-0 before the Cardinals (14-19, 7-7 MEC) bounced back to claim a 9-6 victory in the second.
In the first game
Mackenzie Wallace produced a dominant display for the Falcons, going the distance and giving up just three hits to shut out the Cardinals.
The Falcons opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with
Rachelle Miller and
Anissa Kotoch both notching doubles to bring Miller home. NDC extended their lead in the bottom of the second courtesy of a
Kelsey Coleman double to right center after a
Nataly Ciocca single to left field.
NDC secured the victory with a three run sixth inning,
Maria Vanadia got her first home on Normandy Field with a shot to left field.
Kelsey Coleman would then follow suit, with her fifth home run of the season, to score
Nataly Ciocca and herself.
Wallace would complete the game in the bottom of the seventh with two strike outs to finish a complete game with three hits, three walks and four strike outs.
In the second game the Cardinals took control in the top of the third with a grand slam to take a 4-0 lead. Wheeling would add a further run in the top of the sixth, before the Falcons responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Kayla Sidorski homered to center field and then
Maria Vanadia recorded her second home run of the day with a second shot to left field.
Wheeling added four runs in the top of the seventh but the Falcons did not give up the fight, a
Jessica Cavallero grand slam scored Sidorski,
Nicole Spuhler and Coleman for the Falcons. NDC, however were unable to score any further and fell 9-6.
The Falcons continue their run of 16 games in nine days with a home double header against West Liberty on Sunday April 13, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
