Follow @NDCSoftball on InstagramSOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The Notre Dame College Falcon softball team split a double header with the visiting Gray Wolves from Lourdes, Thursday afternoon on Normandy Field. NDC (14-19, 6-6 MEC) took the first game 9-1 in six innings before Lourdes (10-13) claimed the second 1-0.
The Falcon batters dominated game one with
Rachelle Miller and
Kelsey Coleman each going three for four producing three and two run respectively.
The game was scoreless through two innings, before the Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the third.
Kelsey Coleman opened with a double to left center and then advanced to third on a Rachelle miller single to center field. Coleman would be scored by
Anissa Kotoch who singled to third base, Miller was then scored by a
Jessica Cavallero single up the middle and a
Kayla Sidorski single to left field would score Kotoch and the third run of the innings.
Lourdes pulled a run back in the top of the fourth but the Falcons would score four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead 7-1 heading into the fifth.
Christine Camp put down the perfect bunt to lead the inning off with a single, before a Coleman double, a Miller single and an Kotoch triple scored four runs for the Falcons.
Both teams failed to score in the fifth and sixth innings before the Falcons secured a 9-1 run rule victory with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, courtesy of singles from Miller,
Nicole Spuhler, Kotoch and Sidorski.
On the mound for the Falcons
Mackenzie Wallace went the distance, giving up just one run on seven hits with four strike outs.
The second game in contrast was dominated by the pitchers with both going the distance and giving up just five hits each. For the Falcons
Ashley Hall gave up just one run and had six strike outs, but NDC were unable to get any runs across.
Lourdes scored the game winning run in the top of the second. The Falcons had a chance in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second but were unable get the crucial hit and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Gray Wolves.
The Falcons will continue and eight game home stand with a double header against Mountain East foe Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday April 12. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
