CLERMONT, Fla. – The Notre Dame College softball dropped two games on Wednesday on day four of the Dot Richardson Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.
The Falcons (6-6) started the day against the Flyers (4-6) from Lewis University. The Falcons and the Flyers were tied 2-2 after seven innings and the Falcons would go into extra innings for the third time this season. The Flyers opened the scoring in the first inning, before the Falcons drew level in the fourth inning. A
Nicole Spuhler bunt, an
Anissa Kotoch double put Spuhler in scoring position and
Kelsey Coleman was able to force an error at third to bring Spuhler home. Lewis would regain the lead in the top of the fifth, before a
Jessica Cavallero tripled and
Maria Vanadia singled to tie the game for the Falcons. The sixth, seventh and eighth innings were scoreless before Lewis recorded two runs at the top of the ninth. The Falcons only able to score one in response the Flyers claimed a 4-3 victory.
The Falcons started the second game of the day against Saginaw Valley State (6-5) with two runs in the first.
Kelsey Coleman singled, before
Nataly Ciocca and
Jessica Cavallero were walked.
Maria Vanadia was then hit by a pitch to bring Coleman home,
Nicole Spuhler would ground out but would bring Ciocca home to give the Falcons an early 2-0 lead. The lead, however, did not last long as a three run first innings for the Cardinals gave them a 3-2 lead. NDC level it at 3-3 in the top of the third, however a five run inning for the Cardinals in the fifth would give them control of the game. The Falcons would pull one run back in the seventh but fall 9-4.
The Falcons will play twice again tomorrow against Felician College at 11 a.m. and Lake Erie College at 1 p.m.
