CLERMONT, Fla. — The Notre Dame College softball team bounced back to claim two solid wins today at the Dot Richardson Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Falcons defeated Gannon 3-1 to open the day and then defeated Georgian Court 9-5 to move to 6-4 on the year.
In the day's opening game against Gannon the Falcon pitching combination of
Mackenzie Wallace and
Ashley Hall continued their fine form, limiting the Golden Knights (3-2) to seven hits and one run. The Falcons opened the scoring in the top of the fourth,
Jessica Cavallero,
Maria Vanadia and
Anissa Kotoch each singled to start the innings, before
Nicole Spuhler was walked to bring home Cavallero.
Lydia Coccitto would then single to center field to bring home Vanadia and Kotoch to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead. NDC would give up a home run in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be all the Golden Knights would manage as the Falcons secured a 3-1 victory.
The Falcons bats would catch on fire in the second game of the day as they scored nine runs on ten hits to defeat the Georgian Court Lions (0-6) 9-5. The Lions would open the scoring in the top of the first to lead 1-0, before a three run third inning gave the Falcons the lead. A
Jessica Cavallero double and a
Maria Vanadia single provided the three runs for NDC. Georgian Court would fight back and led 5-4 going into the bottom of the sixth.
Kelsey Coleman and
Rachelle Miller both doubled to bring home four runs and some good base running from Miller would secure the fifth run of the innings. Georgian Court were unable to score in top of the seventh and the Falcons would secure their second win of the day.
The Falcons continue their run of 16 games in eight days with games against Lewis University, 11 a.m., and Saginaw Valley State, 1 p.m., tomorrow, March 5.
