SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -
Ashley Hall pitched a five inning no-hitter in game two of Monday's double header against Concord University as the Notre Dame College softball team swept the Mountain Lions on Normandy Field. The Falcons (12-15, 5-3 MEC) won game one 3-1 and then behind Hall's dominant performance defeated the Mountain Lions (19-13, 3-7 MEC) 8-0 in five innings in game two.
The Falcons opened the scoring in game one in the bottom of the first. After
Kelsey Coleman singled up the middle and
Nicole Spuhler was walked,
Anissa Kotoch would force a throwing error to score Coleman.
Jessica Cavallero would provide a sac fly to score Spuhler and the Falcons led 2-0. NDC would add a run in the bottom of the second as
Christine Camp singled to center field and then scored from first base as
Rachelle Miller singled to center field.
Concord would pull a run back in the top of the third but solid pitching from
Mackenzie Wallace and a strong defensive performance would limit the Mountain Lions to just one run on seven hits. Wallace pitched a complete game for the Falcons to secure the 3-1 victory and her third win of the season.
The second game of the day was fast and furious as the Falcons scored quickly and
Ashley Hall shut out the Mountain Lions. NDC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Cavallero scored courtesy of a
Kayla Sidorski sac bunt and singles from
Maria Vanadia and Camp. A Vanadia single to left field in the bottom of the third added another run for the Falcons as
Nicole Spuhler scored.
NDC scored twice in the fourth inning as a double from Kotoch scored both Coleman and Spuhler to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead. The game would end in five innings as the Falcons exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to claim an 8-0 victory. A single from Sidorski, a double from Coleman, a single from Miller and finally a double from Spuhler scored the four runs as the Falcons secured a run-rule win.
On the mound
Ashley Hall produced the first no-hitter of the season for the Falcons as she struck out 3 batters and faced only 18 batters.
The Falcons will look to continue their rich vein of form on the road at Fairmont State on Saturday April 5. in Mountain East Conference play, first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
