Falcon Softball Get First Win On Normandy Field, Split With Ashland

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The Notre Dame College softball team claimed their first win on Normandy Field as they split two tight games with the Ashland Eagles, Thursday afternoon on Normandy Field. The Falcons (10-15, 3-3 MEC) dropped the first game 4-3 in extra innings, but reversed the one run deficit in the second game, to claim a 3-2 win over the Eagles (11-6).

The first game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when Ashland broke the deadlock with two runs. The Falcons would respond with one run in the bottom of the Fourth as some good base running from Nicole Spuhler forced an error from the Eagles.

Ashland would add a run on a solo home run in the top of the sixth, before the Falcons would tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Anissa Kotoch and Nicole Spuhler started the inning off with singles before Maria Vanadia was walked to load the bases. Natalie Ciocca would bat one run in and a Kelsey Coleman single to center field would tie the game.

Both the Falcons and the Eagles failed to score in the seventh as the game went to extra innings. The Eagles would score one run in the top of the eighth and then blank the Falcons to claim a 4-3 victory.

NDC started the second game off fast with three runs in the bottom of the first. Nicole Spuhler continued her impressive day with a single down the right field line, and was then brought home by Anissa Kotoch who doubled to left center. Jessica Cavallero would then hit her second home run of the season, her first at home, to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.

The three early runs would be enough for the Falcons as Ashley Hall pitched a complete game limiting the Eagles to just two runs from seven hits. With the help of some great outfield play Hall would claim the 3-2 victory and move to 7-6 on the season.

The Falcons will return to Normandy Field on Sunday March 30. to take on Mountain East Conference foe UVA-Wise in a double header starting at 1 p.m. The Falcons were originally scheduled to take on Concord University on Saturday March 29. but those games have been moved to Monday March 31. due to the forecasted inclement weather on Saturday.
