FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Notre Dame Falcons saw an eight point halftime lead slip away on Saturday afternoon, as they fell on the road to Fairmont State, 65-62.
For Notre Dame (12-8, 9-7 MEC) the loss snapped a three-game winning streak, and was just their second in their last six games while for Fairmont State (12-6, 10-5) the victory was their third in a row, and gives them seven in their last eight games.Â
Early shooting woes cost the Falcons, as they hit on just 15.3-percent (2) of their first 13 shots of the game in the opening eight minutes. However, they were able to remain well within striking distance because they made their free throws, nailing 83.3-percent (5) of their first six tosses from the charity stripe, and they trailed by just two (11-9) at the 12-minute mark.
The Falcons were down one (15-14) with 9:26 left in the half, before they caught fire and went on a big run to take the lead. Over the next three minutes, five Falcons scored, as they went on a 12-2 run, capped by
Molly Ritz's layup at the 6:39-mark to give the Falcons a nine point (26-17) lead.Â
Fairmont State answered back, by scoring the next eight points over a three-minute stretch to narrow the deficit down to one (26-25) with three and a half minutes left in the first half. It was a one point game at 28-27 with 2:10 left in the first half, before the Falcons hit their stride again.

Courtney Clark, and they went into the locker room with a 37-29 advantage. In the first half, the Falcons were on fire from beyond the arc, shooting 66.6-percent (6-for-9) from 3-point land.
The momentum established at the end of the first half carried over into the second for NDC, as they saw their lead grow to 12 on multiple occasions. NDC hit four out of their first five shots from the floor in the second half and they took a 45-33 lead with 15:40 to play.
Fairmont State battled back into the contest, and went on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes of the contest to bring the deficit down to two (47-45) on Makenzie White's layup at the 11:51-mark.
Notre Dame would get hot again, as Clark,
Lauren Langenderfer and
Kelsey Miller all made shots over the next two minutes, as the Falcon lead reached nine (54-47) with 10 minutes remaining, only to see Fairmont State come right back.Â
FSU went on an 8-2 run over the next five minutes, and trailed by just one (56-55) with 4:48 left in the game. From that point forward, the Falcons made just two shots, while FSU seized control of the contest and closed out by scoring 10 of the game's final 14 points.Â
Notre Dame had a chance to tie it at the end, but
Martha Nagbe's 3-pointer would not fall with two-seconds left, as FSU came away with the comeback victory.
A trio of Falcons scored in double figures. Clark led the way with 14 points to go along with a pair of steals, while Nagbe added 13 points as well as five boards and five assists. Miller finished the game with 11 points.
