Falcons Defeat Rams 86-75

Sheherdtown, W.Va. - Led by four different players in double digits, the Notre Dame College women's basketball team defeated Shepherd University 86-75 at the Butcher Center on Thursday night in Mountain East Conference action.

With the win the Falcons move to12-7 overall and 9-6 in MEC play. The Falcons have now won three straight games. With the loss Shepherd drops to 2-17 overall and 2-13 in the MEC.

Notre Dame College produced a solid performance on the road leading for most of the game. The Falcons took the lead at the 17:17 mark of the first half after a Martha Nagbe layup and they would not trail for the rest of the game.  

The Falcons claimed a 14 point lead with 5:58 remaining in the first half after an 8-0 run. The Rams would however fight their way back into the game and tied the game 47-47 with the final score of the first half.

NDC put together a 9-2 run to start the second half and take control of the game. The Falcons managed their lead well throughout the second half as they led by at least five points at all stages.  

Courtney Clark, Martha Nagbe and Kelsey Miller reached double digits for the second consecutive game and Molly Ritz also reached double figures. Courtney Clark led the Falcons with a season high 25 points. Clark continued her impressive run of shooting, going 6-10 from the field, including 4-4 from three point range. In addition Clark went 9-10 from the free throw line.

Martha Nagbe, the No.4 scorer in the MEC, continued her impressive season with 19 points and 10 rebounds to record her second double double of the season. Molly Ritz was close to recording her fourth double double of the season with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Kelsey Miller reached double digits for the fourth time this season with 10 points.

NDC edged out Shepherd in steals (16-10) and assists (15-7). The Falcons also held an advantage in field goal percentage (47.4-37.5) and three-point field goal percentage (46.2-40.0)

Notre Dame College will complete their weekend swing trip with a visit to Fairmont State University. The Falcons will take on the other MEC Falcons at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Joe Retton Arena.
