SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame College women's basketball secured back to back home victories with a convincing 65-55 victory over the Cavaliers from the University of Virginia at Wise at Murphy Gymnasium on Monday Evening.
The Falcons (11-7, 8-6 MEC) shot out to a 25-4 lead with 9:28 remaining in the first, courtesy of  9-0 and 12-0 runs. The Falcons would limit the Cavaliers (8-11, 4-11 MEC) to only 17 first half points and 18.5 percent shooting to secure a 37-17 half time lead. The Falcons shot 48.4 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the line in an efficient first half.
Notre Dame College secured their largest lead of the game (43-21) with 16:53 remaining in the game. UVA-Wise, however would fight their way back into the game and had pulled to within eight (59-51) with 2:25 remaining. Four free-throws from
Martha Nagbe and a
Kelsey Miller layup in the final two minutes secured a 65-55 victory for the Falcons.
For the game, NDC shot 44.1 percent (26-for-59) from the field and 75 percent (9-for-12) from the free throw line. NDC held edges over UVA-Wise in rebounds (38-37), steals (10-6), points off of turnovers (17-14) and assists (14-2).
The Falcons scored evenly with
Martha Nagbe,
Courtney Clark and
Kelsey Miller all reaching double digits. Nagbe led the team with 17 points, Miller had 12 points and 7 rebounds to just miss out on back to back double doubles and Clark had an efficient 12 points.
The Cavaliers were led by Reynesha Archer who had 23 points.
Notre Dame College recorded followed up a season-low 11 turnovers on Saturday with just 12 against the Cavaliers. The Falcons continued their run of excellent free-throw shooting, going 9-12 from the line, the Falcons are now a combined 48-62 (77 percent) from the line in their last three outings.
The Falcons will now head out on the road to take on Shepherd on Thursday, February 6 at 5:30 p.m. and Fairmont State on Saturday ,February 8 at 2:00 p.m.
