Tough home loss

Falcons fall to Pioneers at home

Box Score
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons fell behind early in Saturday's game against Glenville State, and could not recover, as they fell to the Pioneers, 87-69, at Murphy Gymnasium.

For the Falcons (9-15, 7-11 MEC) the loss was their third in a row, and snapped a three-game home winning streak, while for Glenville State (15-8, 12-7), the victory was their third in a row, and completes a season sweep of the Falcons.

The Pioneers seized control of the contest early on, as they hit their first four shots from the floor, and began the game on a 10-2 run over the first three minutes of the contest, and never looked back.

Despite the early run, Notre Dame was able to stay well within reach, and they eventually caught fire.  Notre Dame closed the gap to one (23-22) at the 8:45-mark in the opening half after Jarvis Huntley's layup, but the Pioneers scored eight of the game's next nine points to pad their advantage.

The Falcons were still within reach, trailing by just five (32-37) with 3:15 left in the opening half, before the Pioneers made four of their final six shots to close out the first half on a 9-2 run to take a 46-35 advantage at the break.

Both teams shot very well in the opening half, as the Falcons shot 51.9-percent (14-for-27) from the floor, but the Pioneers shot it better, connecting on 19 (63.3-percent) of their 30 shots taken in the first half, including a 6-for-11  (54.5-percent) clip from 3-point range.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, the Pioneers did not let up at all in the second half.  They eliminated any chance of an NDC comeback, as they went on a 19-8 run over the first five minutes of the second half to take a 58-40 lead.  GSC led by double digits through the remainder of the game, and led by as many as 29 (75-46).

NDC shot just 40.3-percent (27-for-67) from the floor for the afternoon, and had trouble filling it up from beyond the arc, where just seven (29.2-percent) of their 24 attempts fell.

Lawrence DeArmond led the way for the Falcons with 17 points on the day.  Huntley scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half, and added six rebounds. Kalomo Figueroa-Jackson finished the game with seven points, three assists and four steals.

The Falcons are in action again on Thursday, Feb. 20, for another MEC road tilt as they head to Institute, W.Va., to take on West Virginia State.  The contest is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
