Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Playing their first home game of the young 2014-15 season, the Notre Dame College women's basketball team put on a show for the home crowd. The Falcons defeated the visiting Concord Mountain Lions by a final score of 78-61 on Saturday afternoon at Murphy Gymnasium.
The Falcons trailed the Mountain Lions 9-8 early in the game, and that's the only time NDC would trail all day.
NDC went on a 15-2 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from
Celine Mangan, and the Falcons took a 23-11 lead with 10:50 remaining in the first half. Four minutes later, a 3-pointer from
Lauren Langenderfer pushed NDC's lead to 33-18.
Both sides exchanged jabs throughout the remainder of the first half, and the Mountain Lions responded with a run of their own to cut NDC's lead to just seven, 37-30, at halftime.Â
The Falcons came out of the intermission with momentum on their side, and immediately went on a 13-2 run to push the lead to 50-32, following another jumper by Langenderfer.Â
Concord attempted to put together a comeback performance, but a 3-pointer from
Martha Nagbe gave NDC a 69-49 lead with just 5:14 left in the game.
From there, the Falcons put the game on ice and held on for the 78-61 win over the Mountain Lions.
NDC was led by Langenderfer (18 points, 4 rebounds), Nagbe (17 points, 7 rebounds) and Allysa Kraus chipped in 13 points and five rebounds.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 2-1 on the season, including 1-0 at home and 1-0 in Mountain East Conference play.
The Falcons will next compete on Monday, Nov. 24 at home against University of Virginia at Wise. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
