SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame Falcons women's basketball continued their unbeaten record at home with a 77-73 victory over the Bobcats from West Virginia Wesleyan.
The Falcons (8-2) again had to overcome a significant deficit after trailing by 17 points with 17:11 remaining in the game. The Falcons, however would use a 19-5 run from the 5:40 mark to draw level at 70-70 before pulling away to claim the victory.
The Bobcats took advantage of a slow start from the Falcons to claim a 25-19 lead at the 6:24 point of the first half before pulling out to a 38-26 lead at half-time.
Wesleyan would continue their run at the start of the second half and led 47-30 with 17:11 remaining. However, from this point the Falcons would outscore the Bobcats by 21 points including a 26-8 run in the final seven minutes of the game. Again the Falcons were led by
Martha Nagbe at the end of the game, Nagbe had 14 of her 18 points in the second half and claimed a vital steal with seven seconds remaining to close out the game.
In addition to
Martha Nagbe, who had 18 points, three other Falcons reached double digits in scoring. Senior
Courtney Clark equalled her seasons best with 17 points, junior
Molly Ritz had 13 points and freshman
Kelsey Miller recorded a career best 13 points. On the boards the Falcons were led by
Molly Ritz and sophomore
Lauren Langenderfer who had 6 rebounds each.
West Virginia Wesleyan were led by Kacey Johnson who had 24 points and Allie Brown who had 14 points.
The Falcons produced some of their best shooting of the season in the second half of the game, shooting 57.6 percent from the field, 57.1 percent from three-pint range and 81.8 percent from the line.
With the win the Falcons move to 8-2 on the season, 5-1 in Mountain East Conference play and 6-0 at home this season.
The Falcons will now start a run of three straight road games, beginning with a trip to West Virginia State on Sat. 11 January at 2:00 p.m.
