WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Notre Dame College women's basketball dropped to a 76–62 defeat against West Liberty, Thursday evening at the Academic Sports and Recreation Complex in West Liberty, W. Va..
The Falcons fall to 9-7 overall and 6-6 in Mountain East Conference play. With the win West Liberty move to 11-8 and 8-5 in MEC play.
West Liberty started the faster of the two teams and led 12-6 with 14:52 remaining in the first half. The Falcons pulled to within four points, 19-25, at the midway point of the first half, before the Hilltoppers claimed a 42-35 lead at halftime.
NDC fought back after half time and were in touch with 10:26 remaining, when they trailed 54-51. The Hilltoppers would however go on a 10-0 run at this point to lead 64-51 with 7:53 remaining. The Falcons were unable to close this gap, with West Liberty closing out the game to win 76-62.
The Falcons were led by
Martha Nagbe who had 16 points.
Courtney Clark produced an efficient 12 points, shooting 50 percent from both the field and three-point range. Freshman
Kelsey Miller was the leading rebounder for the Falcons, claiming 9 boards.
The Hilltoppers were led by Bri Kamarec and Jasmin Kiley who had 17 and 13 points respectively.
The Falcons produced one of their best performances of the season from the free-throw line, shooting 80 percent (20-for25). The Hilltoppers held advantages in rebounds (39-32) and field goal percentage (49.2-38.9)
The Falcons were unable to complete the season sweep over West Liberty, having defeated the Hilltoppers 85-76 in December at Murphy Gymnasium.
The Falcons will now return to South Euclid to take on Concord on Saturday, February 1. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at Murphy Gymnasium.
