Falcons Drop Contest Against Urbana, 68-60

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The Notre Dame College women's basketball dropped a close 68-60 decision to the Urbana Blue Knights on Thursday night in Mountain East Conference play at Murphy Gymnasium.

The first half was an even affair and was tied 14-14 with 10:25 remaining in the half. A Courtney Clark three-pointer for the Falcons (8-6, 5-5 MEC) at the 2:30 mark tied the game at 25-25. The Blue Knights (12-3, 9-2 MEC) would however claim a 32-28 lead at halftime after shooting 37.5 percent from the field.  Courtney Clark made 3 of her 5 three point attempts in the first half to lead the Falcons with 9.

The Blue Knights started the second half strongly to claim a 41-32 lead at the 17:28 mark. However, the Falcons would regroup and put together a 9-0 run to tie the game 41-41 with 14:13 remaining. The game would be tied again (52-52) with 8:08 remaining before Urbana pulled away in the final minutes to secure a 68-60 victory.

Erin Entinghe led the Falcons with 18 points. Joining Entinghe in double digits were Courtney Clark and Martha Nagbe with 13 and 12 points respectively. Clark produced her best shooting performance of the season going 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from three-point range. In addition to her 12 points Nagbe chipped in with a team high 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.

For the game, the Falcons bested the Blue Knights in rebounds (52-35) and bench points (11-2).

The Falcons shot 34.3 percent (23 of 67) from the floor and 33.3 percent (6 of 18) from three-point range Thursday night.

The Blue Knights were led by DeVonyea Johnson who had 20 points and Jackie Cousineau who had 17 points.

Next up for the Falcons is a trip to Wheeling, W.Va. to take on the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday 25 January at 2 p.m.
