SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- An outstanding second half of basketball, which included a terrific shooting display from Notre Dame, pushed the Falcons past Urbana, 84-81, on Thursday evening at Murphy Gymnasium.
For the Falcons (6-10, 4-6 MEC), the victory was their second in their last three games at home, and snapped a brief two game slide, while for the Blue Knights (0-15, 0-11), the loss leaves them winless in 15 games this season, and was their 20th in a row, leaving them winless since Feb. 14, 2013.
The second half was the telling story for the Falcons, who shot a blistering 67.9-percent (18-for-29) from the floor in the second half, which included a 71.4-percent clip (5-for-7) from beyond the arc to pull away in the final 20 minutes.
There were no points scored through the first minute and forty seconds, until the Blue Knights converted on a Ognjen Rebic jumper, but the Falcons followed quickly with 3-pointers from
Lawrence DeArmond and
Jarvis Huntley to take the lead.
Neither side was able to pull away in the opening stages of the contest over the first 10 minutes of the contest, even though the Falcons were able to bury a trio of 3-pointers during that stretch and the Blue Knights hit 60.0-percent of their shots (6-for-10) during that stretch.Â
Notre Dame led by as many as six (18-12) but Urbana battled back, and the two teams would exchange leads several times through the final 10 minutes of the half.Â

Notre Dame shot 44.4-percent (12-for-27) in the opening half and hit on just four (28.6-percent) of their 14 3-point shots, while Urbana shot 43.3-percent (13-for-30) from the floor in the first half and connected on all six of their free throws.
Early in the second half, the Blue Knights saw their lead grow to five (42-37) on Ben Merrit's 3-pointer just a couple of minutes in, before the Falcons took charge. After Merrit's 3-ball, the Falcons went on a 19-5 run over the next four minutes of the contest.Â
During the aforementioned run, the Falcons buried 7-of-9 (77.7-percent) shots from the floor, and found themselves up by nine (56-47) after Huntley's 3-pointer at the 13:39-mark.Â
