SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The Notre Dame College women's basketball dropped their second home game of the season, falling 76-65 to the University of Charleston.
The game was the Falcons fourth consecutive home game after a dangerous chemical leak in the Charleston, W.Va., area forced the games against West Virginia State and the University of Charleston to be moved to Notre Dame College.
The Falcons raced out to a 10-point lead in the first 9 minutes of the game to lead 23-13 at the 10:58 mark of the first half. The Golden Eagles would however chip away at this lead and then claim a 36-34 lead at halftime.
Charleston remained in the ascendancy at the start of the second half, extending their lead to 46-37 with 17:23 remaining. NDC pulled back into contention and trailed 61-60 with 6:11 remaining. However, the Golden Eagles hit some crucial there-pointers and made their free-throws to close out the game and claim a 76-65 victory.
The Falcons were led by
Molly Ritz who recorded her second consecutive double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Also in double digits for the Falcons were
Erin Entinghe with 11 points and
Martha Nagbe with 10 points.
The University of Charleston were led by LeAnne Ross and Nichole Perry who had 22 and 19 points respectively.
Once again the Falcons out rebounded their opponents, this time pulling in 38 rebounds compared to Golden Eagles 36. However Charleston were able to produce a better shooting performance, shooting 44.1 percent from the field compared to NDC's 38.5 percent.
With the loss the Falcons fall to 8-4 on the season, 5-3 in Mountain East Conference play and are now 6-2 at home this season. The Falcons will now head to Glenville State to take on the Pioneers on Sat. 18 January at 2 p.m.
