ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons rallied on Tuesday afternoon and nearly erased a five run deficit, but their comeback came up one run short, in a 6-5 loss to Ashland.
The Falcons (12-14) were supposed to play a pair against the Eagles, but it started raining in the second inning of game two, which eventually led to the cancellation of the contest. The Eagles (20-13) brought their winning streak to six with the victory.
The Falcons plated their first run in the top of the second inning.
Kayla Sidorski began the inning with an infield single, and made her way to second after
Steph Glueck was plunked by a pitch. Sidorski came home later in the inning on
Kelsey Coleman's base hit to center field. The Eagles answered with a run in the home half of the inning.
The contest remained tied at 1-1, until Ashland blew the game open with a five-run fifth inning, which was highlighted by Jen Moore's three-run homer. The Falcons came back with a three spot in the sixth inning. All three runs came on a clutch, two-out double off the bat of
Jessica Cavallero.
The Falcons didn't go away quietly, as they plated another run in the seventh inning, and had the tying run on in scoring position.
Nicole Spuhler began the inning with a walk, and made her way to third on a double from
Christine Kasidonis. Sidorski drove Spuhler home on a sacrifice fly, but that was all NDC would get in the seventh.
Ashley Harbarger (5-5) allowed four runs on five hits over 4.1 innings of action and took the loss. Cavallero had a huge day for NDC at the plate, going 3-for-4, with a double and two runs batted in. Kasidonis went 2-for-4, and has hit safely five times in her last three games.
The Falcons are in action again on Wednesday, April 17, when they hit the road for a double header against Walsh. The first contest is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
