Sunday split

Falcons split twin bill with Urbana

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons won a back and forth battle in their first game of the day on Sunday against Urbana, but the Blue Knights outlasted NDC, to take game two, 2-1.

The split for the Falcons (12-13) gives them victories in three out of their last five games, while the split for the Blue Knights (18-11) snapped a brief three game losing streak.

Game One

The Blue Knights scored single runs in the first two innings, while NDC plated single runs over their first three.  Megan Turner kick started the NDC offense with a solo homer in the bottom of the first. NDC scored their second run when Savannah Dukich reached on a fielder's choice, which plated Nicole Spuhler.  In the third, Spuhler gave NDC a 3-2 lead on an RBI groundout.

Urbana took a 4-3 advantage in the fifth inning, after Ashley Skinner belted a two-run homerun to  left center, but Notre Dame responded by scoring four times on three hits in the bottom of the inning.  Rachel Miller scored the first run on a wild pitch, and Christine Kasidonis followed with a two-run double to right center.  Steph Glueck knocked in the final run on a groundout to cap the big inning.

Urbana plated one more run in the top of the sixth, but it was not enough, as Ashley Hall (3-4) shut the Blue Knights down over 2.2 innings of relief.  She allowed just a run on five hits with a pair of strikeouts to earn the victory.

Game Two

The second game of the day was a classic pitcher's duel.  Ashley Harbarger (5-4) and Cortney Moore (1-0) were simple sensational.  Neither side allowed a run to score until the ninth inning.

Harbarger retired the first 11 batters she faced, and didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning.  In the ninth, Skinner struck again for the Blue Knights, as she delivered her second, two-run homer of the day.  This one snapped a scoreless tie to give the Knights the lead.

Notre Dame did not go down quietly, as they put a threat together in the home half of the ninth.  Moore was an out away from tossing a nine inning shutout, when Kasidonis belted a run scoring double of the wall in left to score Kelsey Coleman, but the Falcons were not able to bring in Kasidonis to keep the game alive.

Harbarger suffered a hard luck loss.  She allowed just the two runs on seven hits while fanning five in the process over nine strong frames.  Moore took the win, after surrendering a run on seven hits.

Miller went 2-for-6 on the day with a pair of runs scored and reached four times.  Kasidonis had three hits on the day, going 3-for-5 with three runs batted in.

The Falcons are in action again on Tuesday, April 16, when they hit the road for a double header against Ashland. The first contest is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
